The Purification Tone (清心音, Qīng Xīn Yīn, lit. "pure heart sound") is a family of mind-calming musical techniques in the Gusu Lan Clan. The strongest of the songs in this category is Cleansing (洗华, Xǐhuá).
Description[]
Cleansing is described as a particularly difficult piece of music.[1]
In Empathy, Wei Wuxian describes the melody as soothing, capable of suppressing hostile energy and clearing the mind.[2]
Use[]
Lan Wangji plays Purification Tone for Wei Wuxian at the beginning of the Bloodbath of Nightless City. Wei Wuxian claims that it has no effect on him and attempts to provoke a fight between the two of them.[3]
Lan Xichen frequently plays Cleansing for his sworn brother Nie Mingjue, to help abate the consequences of the Qinghe Nie Clan's saber spirit. Eventually, he teaches the song to their third sworn brother, Jin Guangyao, so that the both of them can assist their eldest brother.[2]
Jin Guangyao soon takes over playing Cleansing for Nie Mingjue, as Lan Xichen is busy rebuilding the Cloud Recesses at the time.[2]
As the relationship between Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue deteriorates under the Yueyang Chang Clan massacre, Jin Guangyao tampers with Cleansing to substitute parts of the son with Collection of Spirit Turmoil.[2][4] This worsens Nie Mingjue's temperament and eventually induces a fatal qi deviation.[1]
